Find Online Schools – Online Education – Study at Your Own Pace!

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Online education is becoming increasingly popular because it allows people who may not ordinarily have the opportunity to get qualifications, to do so. Those of us who work do not have the time to commit to full time education and with bills to pay, and family to look after it becomes even more difficult to fit evening courses into an already full schedule. However, an online education means you can study at your own pace and time while still earning a reputable and useful qualification.

Regardless of the area you want to study you will be able to find an online college or university that offers the qualification you are looking for. Start by looking around your local area because even online education may sometimes require personal tutoring or exams and these can’t always be done on the Internet.

Once you know the course you want to study and you have applied, it’s time to start working. An online education demands a greater level of commitment and you should make sure that you always offer the commitment that is required. You will have to do all your work off your own back in order to earn the qualification you want, but this means you should have a greater sense of satisfaction when completed.

Those who study through an online education facility have, in years gone by, struggled to receive the full acclamation for their efforts. However, reports show that executive and higher paid jobs invariably go to those with a degree or similar qualifications and employees now recognize the level of commitment and need for pro activity that is required to complete and online education course. You too could take advantage of this recognition while still retaining your current job. In fact, you could use your newfound qualification to get the promotion or pay rise that you feel you deserve.

Teaching Jobs And Classroom Assistant Jobs

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

You probably like reading books and telling people what you’ve learned. Learning is a constant process for you, even after the memory of your college graduation felt like ages ago. You are probably interested to get into the fun and exciting world of teaching. Today we are able to see a lot of teaching centers trying to equip aspiring classroom and teaching assistants the proper know-how, but what we will find is not all of them have the right knowledge, skills and tools to educate our children.

The backgrounds of various people who come from teaching centers are very distinct; there are bankers, insurance agents, or offices with severe administration tasks. With the current credit crunch and the risk of unemployment being more prevalent than ever, a lot of the corporate workers have recently turned to the option of teaching, and probably looking for something that is more vocational in nature.

When we tried to interview career professionals who have recently made the shift, their answers almost had one thing in common: to find a job that will be equally rewarding and at the same time still be able to allot time for their family duties. With the perils of job security tugging at the everyday labor worker, more and more people are taking a stab at becoming a classroom assistant.

Some people work under the assumption that being a teaching assistant is an easy, no-brainer job. The ability to work with kids is one thing, but what others fail to realize is that it can also be stressful. Lesson planning, grading test papers, reviewing lesson plans and not to mention the red tape that exists in some schools may not appeal to the working majority.

Thinking about taking a teaching assistant course? Before you do, maybe it would be worth a shot to review some of the reasons why other professionals made the shift:

- Office work has become routine and mundane. I knew I needed to be in a different environment, and teaching will be my first step. My wife just gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and having that background in teaching and higher learning will really be able to help me not only work with children, but understand them as well.

- Teaching was something that I’ve always dreamed of doing, and the chance to be a teaching assistant will help me fulfill that dream!

- All my kids are in school now, and it can get a little lonely at home. I wanted to find a job that will complement their school schedule so I can also be preoccupied while they are in class.

- I love children, and my passion for teaching will help fuel that. It is a stark change from the corporate world that I’ve been in, but I would really like to pursue this career and stay for the long haul.

Decided yet? A lot of teaching assistant jobs will be able to provide aspiring future professors the qualifications that they need. Just make sure you sign up for an accredited facility so you can make the most out of learning and developing children to learn as well!

Insurance For Continuing Education – All About IRA’s

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Individual retirement annuities (IRAs) which are established on an individual basis, allow wage earners to make independent contributions to their own retirement plans. IRAs provide a limited tax deduction for the individual’s contribution as well as interest accumulation on a tax-deferred basis. (Instruments other than annuities may be used to establish individual retirement accounts, but our discussion is limited to annuities used for this purpose.)

Originally, the purpose of an IRA was to offer retirement savings incentives to people not included in a corporate or employer-sponsored plan. This is still the primary use for an IRA, but some people who are covered by employer plans may establish tax-deductible IRAs as well. Because Congress tinkers with IRAs every few years, the regulations and limitations change from time to time. The purpose of this discussion is to better understand annuities, therefore the following applications of annuities into retirement plans emphasize the position and applicability of the annuities only. However, when annuity premiums are deductible in such a case, it is because of the annuity’s inclusion in the plan rather than the fact that it is, indeed, an annuity.

ELIGIBILITY AND MAXIMUM CONTRIBUTION

IRAs are available to every wage earner who is under 70½ years old; after age 70½, individuals may not establish an IRA. Each wage earner is limited to an annual contribution of $2,000 or 100% of earnings, whichever is less. For example, an individual earning a total of $1,500 annually may contribute no more than 100% or $1,500 per year to an IRA. Someone who earns $2,001 or more per year may contribute only the $2,000 maximum rather than 100% of earnings. In addition, the wage earner may make an additional contribution on behalf of a non-employed spouse, in which case the wage earner may contribute up to $4,000 a year or 100% of earnings. The maximum age for participating in an IRA is 70 ½, at which age there must be withdrawals which are specified in the government regulations and which can be taken in a lump sum or spread out over a number of years.

IS IT DEDUCTIBLE?

As indicated, any wage earner who contributes to an IRA receives the benefit of earning interest without paying taxes on the earnings until the funds are withdrawn.

Wage earners who are not included in an employer-sponsored qualified retirement plan may deduct the entire amount of the contribution from taxable income for the year the contribution is made. Wage earners who do participate in a qualified retirement plan at their place of employment are also eligible to take a tax deduction for the amount contributed provided they meet Internal Revenue Service guidelines.

A popular use for an individual annuity is as a rollover IRA to receive money from a company-sponsored pension or profit sharing plan. Individuals who leave an employer take with them any such monies in which they are fully vested-which means they own all of their share of the plan. To protect themselves from adverse tax consequences, they must have the funds immediately reinvested in another tax-favored plan. A rollover IRA provides this protection.

At one time, individuals could have possession of such funds for 60 days before rolling the funds into another plan. However, a federal law now states that to avoid all penalties, the corporate plan proceeds must be paid from the former employer’s plan directly into another instrument. If the individual chooses to have a check made payable to him or herself while deciding where to re-invest the money, the employer is required by law to withhold 20% and send it to the government.

The individual still will not be required to pay any taxes if the money is rolled over within 60 days, but there’s a huge hitch in this plan. The individual must roll over the entire amount, which includes the 20% that has been sent to the government. Therefore, the individual must find that 20% somewhere else, add it to the funds actually received, and. roll all of that into the rollover instrument. Not only does the individual get only part of the funds, but if the person cannot pay the additional 20% to make up the entire amount, the 20% already sent to the government is taxed as current income-even though the individual never had access to it.

However, the 20% previously sent to the IRS will be reclaimed on the individual’s tax return, but meanwhile the government has had temporary use of the individual’s money and has also forced the person either to find another 20% to complete the rollover or to pay taxes on money the individual never had because the government took it. A bill has been introduced to repeal this highly unfair law that penalizes anyone who is ill-informed, but as of this writing, the rule applies.

Online Insurance – Continuing Education Considered

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Insurance industry professionals will agree that the insurance business is changing daily. The business models we have relied upon in the past are no longer delivering the results we need to meet our business and personal obligations. This means that we must discover new, more effective ways to address the challenges of today and the future.

Insurance continuing education is not taken very seriously these days by insurance professionals. Sadly, this is not productive. I must suggest that insurance continuing education might very well be one of the best resources for insurance agents in redefining their practice focus. Online continuing education courses offer all kinds of topics to assist the insurance professional in becoming more knowledgeable and therefore better prepared to meet the obstacles that lie ahead.

Let’s not forget, that the insurance business is very complex. Insurance professionals must continually read articles to keep current and learn new concepts and strategies to help their clients. An insurance agent or financial advisor dedicated to expanding their knowledge base can use continuing education courses and produce surprising results. Continuing education can help them avoid mistakes that others have made. Studying new concepts and ideas can stimulate new business strategies. In other words, knowledge expansion may very well facilitate the recognition of new opportunities that would not have been recognized otherwise. If you do not know about a particular concept or strategy, then how will you recognize the opportunity when it presents itself?

There are three other reasons to consider online insurance continuing education. First, it’s convenient. As long as you have an Internet connection, you can study anywhere, at home, at work, on a trip or your favorite place to relax. Second, it’s practical. There is no need to commute to and from a class, getting stuck in traffic or having the stress of not being on time. With online insurance continuing education the student can work at his or her leisure, starting and stopping as necessary. Third, it’s affordable. As a general rule the cost of online insurance continuing education is typically less than 25% of the cost of classroom courses.

Knowledge and critical thinking are the elements that are needed to develop new ideas, concepts and strategies to address the needs of our prospects and clients. The more prepared we are, the greater the likelihood of creating sound solutions to meet the challenges of the future. There is no substitute for continuing education, regardless of the field of endeavor.

Teaching English Abroad In International Schools

Monday, August 29th, 2011

There are many opportunities for teaching English abroad that are open to anybody who is able to speak English fluently. Whether you have a teaching degree or a certificate in English language teaching you can find work almost anywhere in the world.

This article looks at two options for people who want to teach English abroad including private language schools and teaching English abroad in International Schools.

International Schools

International schools are elementary, middle and high schools for expatriate children whose families live abroad. There are international schools that offer an American curriculum, those that offer a British curriculum and many more. The language of instruction in most international schools is English but many of the students have English as a second or third language, and so most international schools have teachers who support these students by teaching them English language.

Teaching English abroad in international schools can be done with the same qualifications that are required for teaching in a private language school however you will be competing with people who have teaching diplomas. With over 4000 international schools worldwide, there are many positions vacant every year.

Teaching in an international school often offers better pay and more benefits than teaching in a private language school. Some benefits you are likely to receive teaching in an international school are annual flights, accommodation allowance, medical insurance and, free tuition for your children in the school.

International schools follow the regular school year, so you will only be teaching for around 200 days, and you will be paid for your vacation time, unlike private language school where you will receive 3-4 weeks holiday in a 12 month contract.

Private Language Schools

Teaching positions in private language schools are easy to secure. English language tuition is a growth business in many areas of the world, in particular in Eastern Europe and throughout Asia.

In order to teach English in a private language school you need to be able to speak English fluently and have a certificate from either Trinity or RSA CELTA. These courses are around 4 weeks long and can even be completed online. Some language schools will hire native English speakers who do not have any ESL qualification, but usually these schools are not as reputable as those that insist their teachers have the appropriate qualifications.

For some countries you will need to have a Bachelor’s degree in order to be eligible for a work permit. You need to check this out if you do not have one because you could end up working abroad illegally. Usually your degree can be in any subject, it does not need to be in education.

Working at a private language school can be rewarding as you learn about the local culture from your students and see the progress they make. You are likely to have a combination of classes with 12-20 students and private lessons where you teach only one or two students.

In Asia you can land an English teaching contract at any time, but in Europe most contracts are from the beginning of autumn in September through to the beginning of summer in June or July.

Having taught English in both private language schools and worked in international schools, I recommend you try and focus on landing a position teaching English abroad in an international school because the pay and benefits are better and you get longer holidays too.

Teaching Across The Curriculum Involves All Subjects

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Teaching across the curriculum is an increasingly popular way of instructing students because it covers a variety of subjects in one lesson – which is why it is especially important in the career planning field as well. Let’s say you have a high school student who isn’t quite sure what he or she wants to do for a career. Teaching across the curriculum involves all subjects in one main lesson topic and can really help with that high school student when he or she is planning a career for the future.

When an instructor teaches across the curriculum, he or she is incorporating all subjects into a lesson plan. That means that one lesson includes instruction in art, science, reading, math, English, and social studies. Teaching across the curriculum allows a student to be introduced to various ways to incorporate learning into life and that includes career planning as he or she gets older.

Career planning cannot start early enough although we think that elementary students should really be concentrating on something more along the lines of the next kick ball game on the playground during recess. However, in high school, career planning should really begin in earnest, and when the course includes teaching across the curriculum, that student will be introduced to ways that all different subject areas in school can apply to a career choice.

More and more teachers have been learning how to teach across the curriculum. It is an excellent way to show students how different subjects apply to all aspects of life. In career planning decisions, knowing this information is wonderful for preparing the student for a jump into college and then the career world. That’s why it’s important for a teacher to teach across the curriculum – to help the student in his or her career planning aspirations.

At the career planning center, you may find classes and seminars that implement teaching across the curriculum. That’s because they know the value of introducing people and students to the various ways that all subjects in education can be advantageous in almost any career. After all, even art can be implemented into an accounting career. Imagine the beauty of a spreadsheet that is created in a publishing program that looks appealing to the eye. Right there, you have math incorporated with art!

Teaching across the curriculum in schools should and probably will continue. When it comes to career planning, teaching across the curriculum is a great way to help students choose a career they will love and will be able to succeed at.

Some Ideas For Teaching Autistic Children

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

Teaching children is a difficult enough endeavor on its own. Throw in an autistic child with learning disabilities, and the task can seem overwhelming. However, the task is not impossible. By following some simple guidelines, you may be able to see a marked improvement. Whether you’re a parent home schooling your child or a teacher with an autistic student in your class, these tips should prove helpful.

The first thing you may want to keep in mind is that autistic children are generally very dependent upon routine. Rather than fighting this, it is a good idea to incorporate it into the learning process. In a classroom setting, routine is already well established, but it can be more difficult in a home setting. The key, though, is to stick to a schedule, and to not deviate based on convenience or other factors whenever possible.

It can also be beneficial for an autistic child to learn in an environment that is as simple and uncomplicated as possible. Autistic children are easily over-stimulated, too many decorations or visual aides can serve to be a major distraction from the lesson being taught. An area free from distractions, loud noises and bright lights is what you should be aiming for.

Another interesting idea is to incorporate multiple methods of delivery into your teaching lessons. While many children respond differently to different mediums, this difference is much more distinctive in autistic children. They may respond best to visual images, so incorporating simple illustrations or symbols that represent learning concepts can be a valuable teaching tactic. Experiment to find the method of delivery that is easiest for them to learn from.

Offering an autistic child a choice is another great way to get them involved in the learning process. Rather than presenting a child with an answer and asking him or her to figure out if it is correct or incorrect, present a series of options and let the child choose the option that seems best to him or her. This is a great way to create an interactive teaching environment, and to stimulate thought and cognitive response from a child. It is also a good way for them to feel more in control, lessening the chance of a frustration outburst or negative associations with a particular lesson or idea.

A key point to remember is autistic children are extremely resistant to changes in their environment. Because of this, you should meet their expectations whenever you can. Introduce new ideas gradually. Introduce new learning methods when the child is having a good day or is in a positive mood. Adhere to routine as much as possible, as this is what your child expects and desires, and what will facilitate the most effective learning environment.

It’s true that teaching an autistic child can be difficult. But it is not impossible. It takes a little hard work, a little patience, and significant understanding of the needs of the child and the teaching methods and strategies that will be most beneficial to them. If you follow these simple guidelines, you’ll have a great start on teaching autistic children effectively.

Good Education

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Having a good education can really make a difference in someone’s life, and in many different aspects. As you are a little boy or girl the only way to have a good life and be well off is if you go to school. Or at least that’s what everyone tells you. Now don’t get me wrong for the most part it is almost 100 percent true.

Now notice I said ALMOST. The reason why I say that is because there are a couple of people that have become very wealthy and famous might I add that have dropped out of school. However if you are not one of these lucky people then dropping out of school might not be a good idea but the ultimate decision does lie within you and only you. However according to studies it is true that the longer that you stay in school the more money you will make. The reason for that is that because in this society education is regarded very highly because the is something that no one can take away from you.

However school is not for everyone. There are some people that just feel like they just aren’t school material. Now if you want to be successful you have to be in the mindset that you can achieve everything that you want and it will happen. You must always believe in yourself and others will believe in you as well. However no one can change your life except you. You have to make sure that you are willing to put in everything of you that there is to give.

What is Your EFL / ESL English Teaching Philosophy?

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

The Interview

The interview seemed to be going along okay. Then the Director asked, “So what is your philosophy of teaching English?”

“My philosophy of teaching?” The TEFL interviewee twisted in her seat, tugging at the collar of a blouse that was suddenly too tight. She felt water running down her back. A certain dampness coated her palms.

“Yes. Do you have a philosophy of teaching?” the director repeated. The interview had taken a distinctive downturn. Top positions paying top dollars require top professionals.

“Well, I’m not really sure what you mean.” the teacher responded. “I can tell you what I do in my classes, what materials I use and how I interact with the students. Is that what you mean?”

No, that’s NOT what the Language Institute Director meant. The interview ended. So did the teacher’s prospects at that high-level institution.

Philosophy of Education

A teacher’s philosophy of education is now used as a major marketing strategy by savvy teachers and has become an essential component of a teacher’s CV and portfolio. It has evolved to become part of the teacher’s personal profile, which outlines all of his essential skill sets and unique qualities, and highlights the teacher’s specialties. (D. Expert author Damian Sofsian in his article, “Teacher Education Philosophies”, talks about five types of teaching philosophies: (http://ezinearticles.com/?Teacher-Education-Philosophies&id=227410)

• Liberal – which aims at developing intellectual powers

• Behavioral – these ideologies focus on the survival skills of a human being and the role of education in teaching them

• Progressive – motivates cultural development of an individual in order to bring about societal change

• Humanistic – trends look at the overall development of the personality and characteristics of an individual

• Radical – these philosophers are interested in beneficial changes that should happen in a society from time to time, and the role of education in bringing about political, social and economical changes

Teacher education philosophy is now a major marketing strategy used by EFL and TEFL teachers and has become an essential component of a language teacher resume and personal profile. (D. Sofsian, 2006)

Your Philosophy of Education

What is your philosophy of education? If you “don’t have one” now would be a good time to more thoroughly investigate aspects of one. Add your philosophy to all your teaching areas. Let it pervade what you do and how you approach your craft from every angle from preparation to class activities, problem-solving, discipline and assessment. Your philosophy helps set you apart from those who might just show up, do the minimum and collect their paychecks. In these days of increasing professionalism, increased requisites for teaching staff and higher expectations on the part of Educational Administrators, TEFL teachers, regardless of current status, simply cannot afford to be lax.
